Injecting a Dose of Unconditional Love (2 min read)

When you were a baby, you were completely dependent on your caregivers to feed you, clean you, give you a safe place to sleep.  If you were lucky, you also had caregivers who loved you unconditionally.  A baby doesn't have to--and can't--do anything to earn affection.

As you got older, love got more conditional.  Maybe were praised for getting good grades and treated unfavorably when you got bad ones.  Maybe you became aware that a certain kind of look was popular and prized.  Either way, conditions of worth started to stack up.

That part of you that craves and deserves unconditional regard is still there, waiting to be rediscovered.  It might be more difficult to find a source of unconditional love as an adult, but not impossible.  We can ask a friend for a non-judgmental ear.  We can practice self-compassion.  We can use peer listening groups (see link to 7 cups) or try formal therapy.

There are ways to get small doses of acceptance injected into our lives.

Warm regards,

-Mariya
